“Mario Bellini. Italian Beauty. Architecture, Design, and More”
The exhibition “Mario Bellini. Italian Beauty” was held at the Shchusev State Museum of Architecture (MUAR) in Moscow from March 5 to April 13, 2019. It was a large-scale retrospective featuring iconic pieces of furniture, electronics, and architectural projects by the renowned Italian designer.
The exhibition was dedicated to Mario Bellini, one of the most renowned Italian architects and designers in the world. The retrospective opened a year after his exhibition at the Milan Triennale and more than 30 years after his exhibition at MOMA in New York (at that time, in 1987, the American museum already had 25 of his works in its permanent collection). 1987 marked a turning point for Bellini, and since then he has dedicated himself to architecture and urban space. The Moscow exhibition pays tribute to the work of this multifaceted and unique Italian architect, who distinguished himself in both small and large projects. His style can be considered innovative, even revolutionary. He received eight Compasses d’Or awards and designed furniture that has found its way into homes and offices around the world, as well as convention centers and exhibition halls from Japan to America, and from Germany to Australia. In 2012, he designed the Islamic Art Department at the Louvre, the world’s most prestigious museum.
